Reading Time

For the last few weeks, the kids and I have been working on reading lessons. Each day we complete a few lessons and it has been so exciting to see the progression. Both kids seem to enjoy this time and although Caileigh is a few lessons behind Aiden, they both seem to be doing well and are equally motivated. Aiden has moved into simple stories and Caileigh is still working on sounds and simple words. Our program is set to be finishing up in May so the timing couldn't be more perfect. We have a long ways to go but here's a video to share our time together.
(please excuse Caileigh chomping away on her gum. This is a favorite "special time" treat.)

Oh Boy! Oh Boy!

Monday morning we set out on the first ferry to go to our routine mid-point ultrasound. I was really excited that we would get a glimpse of our baby and I was praying that he/she would be healthy. We arrived for my appointment around 12:30 and Sean waited in the waiting room with the three kids while I went in. As the ultrasound tech started the exam she chuckled, "Well, there's just one in there." I had a little chuckle to myself and suddenly noticed the change in expression of the tech. "Wait.......oh my.........there's 2 in there!" I thought that she must be joking. There was no way! I felt absolutely stunned and shocked. Even now I keep thinking that it is going to be terribly embarrassing when I have to tell everyone that the tech made a mistake and there aren't really twins. The ultrasound took over an hour because she had to measure each baby in detail and constantly confirm that she was measuring the correct baby. Both babies look healthy. I was 19 weeks and 2 days and yet both measured over 20 weeks.

Poor Sean was waiting out in the waiting room this whole time wondering what was wrong. When he was finally able to come in I just blurted out, "There's 2." He also looked quite surprised and shocked and I could tell that he thought I was kidding. When we finally got outside an hour and half later we decided to forgo our earlier plans of going to Nanaimo for the afternoon and raced to catch the 3:00 ferry. The last few days have been full of a mixture of emotions. As fearful and unsure as I am about how this is logistically going to work out, I feel very excited. Twins! This is not something I have experience with. I feel that this is single handedly going to stretch and mature me in ways that I have never been stretched.

I keep looking back to see if there were any clues, yet any strange symptoms I have had could be explained away. I am bigger this time but this is also my 4th pregnancy. I have felt constant movement since week 14 but I also felt Mikayla move quite early. I was sicker this time but I also have 3 little ones. I have been exhausted but have been battling a head cold for the last month. I also had an early ultrasound which revealed one baby.

The twins appear to be fraternal as there were two placentas and separate sacks. I have not been to the Dr. yet and will be going on Monday. I look forward to getting more information. We were able to find out the sexes.

Below is a picture of Twin A and this mirrors the same image I saw in Twin B. I think the evidence is quite clear.

Two baby boys.
3 under 2.
5 under 5.
Oh my!

I'd like to introduce you to Twin A

And Twin B

Are you as shocked as we are?

I love it when the house is quiet and it doesn't mean something bad. There is nothing like finding your kids playing well together to put a smile on your face!

Last week I arrived home from dance and Sean was preparing chicken caesar wraps for dinner. Caileigh ran excitedly to greet me shouting, "We're having saran wraps for dinner!"

Aiden wanted to tie a string from the top of the stairs to the bottom of the stairs to create a zip-lock line.

Aiden has been extremely affectionate and cuddly lately. His favorite loving words to me are, "I love you so much, I never want to get rid of you."

If you ask Caileigh what her full name is, she will answer, "Caileigh Bear Watson."

Happy Birthday Bupee

Saturdays have become known as "Bupee day". My Dad comes over to visit with the kids and I and we usually have lunch together and he gets to spend time with the kids. Sometimes we will venture out for a walk, to the beach or on some other adventure and other times we just relax at home. Today will be a great Bupee day as we celebrate with roast dinner and chocolate cake! See you tonight!

Sleep over night

These days, Fridays are "sleep over night." It all started back in January when we were struggling to get the kids to stay in their own room at night. We spent weeks trying various techniques and finally we stumbled on something that seems to work for us. Each time the kids would come downstairs they would lose a favorite toy. After three nights of Aiden losing his lego, train set, mega blocks and various other favorites, he decided that he would start staying in his room at night. If the kids stay in their own room all week then on Friday they are rewarded with a sleep over. Sean works the late shift on these nights so it is just the kids and I. We start by having something "fun" for dinner like cold cereal or grilled cheese. (what can I say, we really live it up in our house) After dinner we have treats such as cookies or an ice cream sundae and then the kids curl up in our bed. I put a movie on and the kids can watch the movie and fall asleep. When Sean gets home from work, late at night, he carries the kids upstairs. This is a win-win situation for all of us. The kids go to bed more easily knowing that they will receive this special reward and I am able to have a relaxing evening. Gotta love it!

Wii had too much fun.

Thanks for a great weekend visit Auntie Misty. It is always wonderful to see you.

Sean and I have made the decision that our trip to Disneyland this April might be best put off for a couple of years. As a result of our decision, we have a lot of Air Miles begging to be used. We cashed in and ordered ourselves a Wii. I look forward to getting the Wii fit and getting back into shape in the fall. Last night Sean wanted me to try Mario Brothers with me and the next thing we knew, over two hours had flown by. I may be exhausted today but I will admit, it was a lot of fun!

Pregnancy Update

I am still not quite sure that I am pregnant. It seems surreal. All is well. I feel great and am growing in leaps and bounds. I am bigger, so far, than I have been in my previous three pregnancies. I never seem to have a problem with weight gain during pregnancy and have already put on 15 lbs! Baby is active and it was hard for the Dr to find his/her heartbeat this morning as he/she kept bouncing around. I have been feeling the baby move for about a week and although it is infrequent at this point, it always makes my heart swell. No complaints, aside from some heartburn, most likely ice cream induced. I go for my ultrasound in 3 weeks. They will not reveal the sex which disappoints me a little.
