Girls Day

The girls and I got to go to Vancouver Island for the day. We spent our time with my friend and her two girls. Caileigh had such a blast and loved getting to be princess for a day. What a special, refreshing day!! We are leaving tomorrow for more camping. We are going back to the beach where the Canada Day festivities will be going on tomorrow night. I am so excited for the kid's first fireworks experience!! More to come when we return......

Happy 6 months Mikayla

Such a big girl you are becoming. I can't believe you are 1/2 a year. On Friday you got your first set of shots and weighed in at 16 lbs 10 oz. You have been experimenting with fighting sleep and trying to skip your naps. You are going to bed later and waking up many times in the night. I am hoping it is a short lived phase. You love to roll everywhere and are starting to get a little bit antsy when I hold you. You love to snuggle into my neck and pull my hair and anything else that your little hands can grasp. You are starting to sit. I love you Miky Moo.

Jester Mikayla learning to stick out her tongue
Nanee and Bupee just left and we had a very nice visit. Pie making, farmers market and plenty of other activities to keep our time busy. Thank you very much for coming!

Ah, today was one of those days. I really can't complain though as it is 7 and all the kids are in bed. It will be interesting to see what Mikayla does though as she has been going down early and then waking up and not wanting to go back to bed until late. Her other option is skipping her afternoon nap and getting really tired and then also not going to bed until late. I can finally get her down by putting her in the sling and bouncing around the house. She is then up multiple times a night and is happiest in bed with us feeding all night long. I don't suppose I can blame her......nice warm bed, snuggles, constant milk supply.
Mikayla is not interested in the Bumbo. She will sit for a few minutes and then gets frustrated that she can't be mobile. She arches her back and twists to the side trying to free herself.

She can sit but really doesn't have much of an interest in it. She throws herself forward so she is on her tummy and then proceeds to start rolling.

Rolling, rolling, rolling.....

The bigger kids are good. Their favorite breakfast is oatmeal so we eat it almost everyday. It is filling, versatile and they always gobble it up. Today I served them cold cereal with some sliced strawberries on top. Aiden looked so excited and says, "Oh Mommy this is so good. Did you make it from one of your cookbooks?"

The kids have enjoyed being home from our week away, however Aiden has decided that Powell River is too small. He wants to move to Vancouver where all the high rises are. He says that they must have many adventures there. He also figures that July would be a good time to go. He continues to spend his time focused on fixing and creating things. His recent creation is a contraption made out of tinker toys that pumps air into holes to scare the spiders away. Caileigh gets stuck being his "helper", although she doesnt seem to mind.....yet. She balances the masculine activities by wearing her tutu.

Don't worry about the kids and their recent loss. The fish tank is cleaned and ready for a new "Bubbles". They are excited about his trip to Thailand (where Siamese Fighting Fish come from) and I am planning on splurging on a net to use while cleaning the bowl.

Well, there goes my bath. 2/3 are now awake.............

Dear Aiden and Caileigh;

When you are old enough to read this and understand the implications, I am so, so sorry I dropped Bubbles the fish down the sink.

We're Home!

What a fantastic week we had! I forgot how exhiliarating, exhausting and exciting camping can be! The kid's loved every minute of it and once the initial packing was done, the rest of it was a lot easier. The kids who are normally in bed at 7 were up until nearly 10 each night and up by 6. This eventually caught up to them and by the end of the week the kids were starting to sleep in until 7 which was heavenly!!! We spent the first two nights at a local beach. The kid's loved playing at the park or the water front and enjoyed getting to know "Mollie", the campground squirrel. The last day as Sean was packing up camp the kids played squirrel. Aiden was a squirrel and Caileigh would throw nuts and peanuts at him. We must have spent over 2 hours playing this game.

Monday we came home and caught up on laundry, cleaning etc. We head out again first thing Tuesday and took the ferry over to the Peninsula. We camped out near Sechelt at Porpoise Bay. What a gorgeous location this is! Gorgeous sandy beaches and a close drive to Starbucks for those ultra important morning coffees.......yes, we are pampered campers! Wednesday morning we took the ferry to Vancouver for the day. My Grandpa was quite sick the week before and we felt it was important to visit him as a family as the last time Sean and I visited them together was 5 years ago!!! We were all very excited to see them and very much enjoyed our day together!

A walk through the garden. Can you believe this yard is cared for by 91 and 93 year olds? I only wish I had a picture of the vegetable garden containing potatoes, tomatoes, beans, radishes, lettuce and more. Puts me to shame!

You can see the start of the garden....

We finally arrived home Friday and although our time away was wonderful, I must admit that my warm bath made home seem wonderfully good. Until next time.......
