I love how pictures only tell half the story. What you don't see are the millions of mosquitos attacking us with vengeance as we race through the trail with sweat dripping off our faces. You don't see the hour drive down a gravel road with bears, deers and logging trucks. You don't see our neatly packed picnic that gets forgotten and then hastily eaten in the car.

Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe we're only meant to see the beauty because truly that is what is most important. That is what I want to remember.

Each day I am reminded in subtle, gentle ways that I am the mom of twins. There are the two smiles that greet me in the morning and the chorus of giggles that fills the living room. There are two booster seats, two car seats and two play pens. Although having twin babies has been difficult at times, the experience has been strengthening and enjoyable.

Today, however, I was reminded that I am mom to twins and it hit me with an unnatural force that left me gasping for air. I am entering into the toddler stage and I am not ready!!!

The boys have started escaping from their confines of the living room and they are loving their freedom. My head spins as I frantically run around closing cupboards, holding drawers shut and trying to steer them away from stairs. I have been given a glimpse of the next few months/years and I admit that I have been left shaken and fearful.

I know I have said it before but how exactly am I going to do this??

P.S. I am accepting resumes for a nanny position. Job starts immediately.

Field Trip

and so it begins.......

When you've got early risers, a 10:30 church start can feel like a long wait. To pass the time this morning, I let the older kids take pictures with the camera. They captured some great memories.

Mikayla is at that incredibly amazing age where everything they do and say is beyond adorable. There is so much curiosity behind her eyes and so much wonderment in the everyday.

Mikayla continues to be an energetic, mischievous monkey, however, she is slowly learning to listen and "obey quickly". She has spunk and I am certain that the other day when she answered, "yes Mommy" there was a note of exasperation in her voice. Name calling has started and it's hard not to laugh when she is shouting, "no Aiden koo koo".

Mikayla's favorite things are playing outside, looking through books, pouncing on her brothers and going to the park or library.

Mikayla has a sing-song, melodic way of speaking. I love hearing her respond with, "Oh, that'd be good." or "Wow, this is so cool".

Here are a few things that have made me smile lately.......

"Mommy, can we watch the hockey game tonight?"

"The hockey game?"

"Yea, I want to watch Boston win!"

(I definitely won't be relaying this conversation to Aiden who has become a strong Canucks fan, although if they keep losing I think he may consider switching over also.)

Mikayla was cooking in her kitchen and I asked her what she was making.

"I'm making soup, yup, definitely making soup."
