Last week I was teaching Alex and Jordan about the importance of money. We read The Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Money. This book seemed to inspire Alex and the next thing I knew he was up at the table, busily creating book marks. Shortly after, Alex announced he was going outside. I carried on at the table helping Mikayla with her math. About 20min. later, Alex came running in the house excited. I looked up to see him waving around $5.
It turns out, while I thought Alex was happily playing outside, he was actually setting up a book mark stand at the end of our driveway and selling bookmarks to cars driving by! I did a little investigative work and discovered the $5 came from our neighbour down the road. She said she wanted to reward Alex's hand work and initiative. She did admit, however, that something seemed amiss because Alex was outside in his pyjamas. Alex and I have since discussed the importance of letting a parent know when he is planning to set up a business. All siblings were rewarded with a treat from the earnings:)
