Field Trips

Who knew you could still play the violin with a broken arm!  Somehow Alex is managing.

A fall field trip to the Apple Orchards.

A field trip to the Museum to learn about the Gold Rush and Fur Trade.

A drumming performance for Mikayla and Aiden.

Hospital Visits

In the course of 2 days, Alex fell out of a tree and broke his arm, and Aiden had his tonsils removed.  This was also all while Sean was out of town!

September

September is one of my favourite months of the year.  The anticipation of new beginning mixed with the warmth and beauty from the colourful landscape.  We've been busy digging into our year of learning.  The boys enjoyed making models of Wigwams after we finished reading, "The Sign of the Beaver".

This will be our final month of delivering papers.  They have been incredibly inconsistent with the delivery times and sometimes our papers have even arrived a day late.  This makes it too difficult for us to get them delivered amidst our busy days.  Our wagon also broke, perhaps a sign?

"Go to your opposite corners!"

Alex started violin lessons! He has been anxiously hoping to start for over a year so he is taking the year off of piano to try out this new endeavor.  So far, he absolutely loves it!

Caileigh is so competent in the kitchen.

Love this scene of everyone working hard.  School does not always (almost never) look this idyllic.

STEM projects are a favourite around here.

And of course Lego!

Mikayla oozes creativity in everything she does.  She made this display for her bedroom door.

Math lessons:)

Craft day!  Making fall creations to take to the seniors home, and to decorate our home.

A hike in nature on a cloudy Saturday afternoon.

First Day Of School

This year we started school Labour Day.  I told the kids to get ready for the day and then they could come read their Agendas and find out what was scheduled.  When they opened their agendas they found written, "Go to the beach".  They were all excited to quickly pack up and enjoy the first day of school at the beach:)

The following day we officially started school.  I am attempting to have the kids each work at their own workstations this year.  I am hoping that the kids having their own study quarters will keep down on the distractions they love to create for each other.

Armstrong IPE parade

This year the kids participated in the Armstrong IPE parade.  Aiden drummed with the pipe band and the girls carried the banner.  It was great fun for my mom, boys and I to watch.

August

The weather this summer was very unsettled.  There would be a day or two of heat followed by a few days of rain.  The month went by very quickly as we enjoyed the freedom of time.

Girls making homemade tortillas for dinner

We built a fire pit for our propane fireplace.

Kids enjoyed sleeping out on the front deck one night.

We visited friends at their campsite and went on a little hike together.

Boys had fun with science kits from their birthday.

Visit from Kelly and the girls and we went to the Armstrong Fair.

Explored the BX Falls.

Younger four took over Aiden's paper route.

Aiden started his first official job (other than paper route) at Opas in the mall.

Making Art videos with friends.
